Kieran Barrett is a Lieutenant with the Montclair State University Police Department in Montclair, New Jersey. Kieran has been serving in law enforcement at MSU for the past thirteen years serving in patrol and Supervising the Detective Bureau. For the past four years, Kieran has served as the Administrative Lieutenant in charge of areas such as Professional Standards, Budget and Finance as well as Community Programs.
In 2003, Kieran was awarded a scholarship and was certified by the International Association of Chief of Police as a trainer in Violence Against Women topics. In 2009 became actively involved in the Passaic County Mental Health Taskforce and has since been certified in the national standards for Crisis Intervention Team. Kieran has presented on a variety of topics including Police Officer Involved Domestic Violence, Human Trafficking, Use of Technology in Presentations and Police Report Writing. Since 2007, Kieran has served on the Executive Board of the New Jersey Public Safety Accreditation Coalition serving as both the Assistant Vice President and Vice President for the North Region. The Montclair State University Police Department is currently in the assessment phase of national accreditation with CALEA.
Kieran holds his BA in Criminal Justice and recently graduated with an MA in History from Montclair State University, actively researching the history and exodus in New Jersey cities in addition to generational approaches to police training. He is a certified police instructor and also teaches at the college level.
