Mr. Reed Layton has over 35 years’ of experience in law enforcement as a practitioner, supervisor, administrator and policy developer. He worked through the ranks of the Glassboro Police Department experiencing many facets of law enforcement instilled a well rounded knowledge of police work. Through his promotions, he has developed strong interpersonal skills and leadership abilities. Reed was instrumental in implementing various special units while with the Glassboro Police Department. Training has encompassed a multitude of subjects which has enhanced his overall abilities to meet the challenges confronted on a day to day basis. Since his retirement from Glassboro Police, Reed has made the transition into campus law enforcement at Rowan University and currently he is the Senior Director of Public Safety. During the years at Rowan, Reed has collaborated and facilitated developing their police department to provide a professional law enforcement service to the community of Rowan. Reed has been the accreditation manager for Rowan University Public Safety since the department first entered the self-assessment phase to currently their scheduled national on-site with CALEA in fall of 2010.
Senior Director Layton has earned his BA degree in Law & Justice from Rowan University. He has been certified as a New Jersey State Certified Public Manager, a Certified Chief Law Enforcement Executive, and has graduated from the prestigious West Point Command and Leadership Program. Reed is a state assessor and assists various agencies through their accreditation process and a recipient of the Junior Fellowship Award from the Coalition. He is currently the Vice President of the South Region for the New Jersey Public Safety Accreditation Coalition.
