Michael “Mike” Rein is a sergeant with the New Brunswick Division of the Rutgers University Police Department. Mike has been employed by Rutgers University since 2000 and has worked in various positions within the University’s Division of Public Safety including; Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), 911 Telecommunicator, Police Officer, Community Policing Officer, and Police Sergeant.
Mike has been the accreditation manager for the Rutgers University Police Department (including the Camden & Newark Divisions) from when the agency first entered the self assessment phase for the CALEA Accreditation Program. He currently supervises the agency’s 911 Communications Center, which in addition to providing full Police/Fire/EMS dispatch services to University Community; provides these same services to several New Jersey Municipalities under shared services agreements. Additionally, he is responsible for coordinating traffic operations effecting the more than 50,000 spectators attending events at the University’s NCAA Division I Football Stadium.
Mike has become certified as a Child Passenger Safety Technician Instructor and has been credited with fostering and sustaining one of the longest running Child Passenger Safety Inspection & Education efforts in the State.
Mike has earned a Bachelors of Degree in Criminal Justice from Rutgers University. Mike is active with the Central Region of the NJPSAC and holds the position of Corporate Secretary. He is a member of the Association of Professional Communications Officials (APCO), the National Emergency Number Association (NENA), International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA), and New Jersey College and University Public Safety Association (NJ CUPSA).
